Rust Converter #346 is a liquid surface conditioner and primer that converts existing rust into an inert, protective coating that seals out moisture and corrosion to prevent future development. Unlike other products, it is not a simple cleaner or cover-up. The special formula attacks rust at the chemical level, for fast, long-lasting results. Treated surfaces turn matte black, and can be painted with an oil-based paint for even longer protection against new rust.

Available in: 12 x 1 quart, 4 x 1 gallon, 6 x 1 gallon, 5 gallon, and 6 gallon.

Apply two coats, allowing at least 20 minutes drying time between coats. Allow 48 hours of cure time before applying an oil-based paint. One gallon will cover 500 square feet of a smooth non-porous surface. Irregular, porous surfaces will require a heavier application rate. Tannic acid reacts with iron oxide (rust) and chemically converts it to iron tannate, a dark-colored stable material. The overall chemical reaction converts rust into a stable, black protective polymeric coating. Do not paint with water-based paints.
